Semester Final: Self Project

The first project we did this year was a self project. This means that the image we create needed to reflect who we are as a person, using symbols, colors, pictures, words, etc. I took this project as an opportunity to include all the things that make me who I am in a picture that's different than what anyone else would think of. So a started out by taking a picture of myself in sunglasses and sketched that out on a piece of drawing paper using pencil. But instead of shading in the lenses of the sunglasses, I filled them in with drawings of objects and designs that reflect who I am. I used colored pencil on these drawings so that they stand out. In a way, it signifies that the parts are greater than the whole, or that there's more than meets the eye. My face isn't what makes me me, it's what I do and my personality that makes me different than everyone else. The things I included in the drawing are music lyrics, an iPod, a camera, question marks, a stage and the comedy and tragedy faces, my zodiac sign (Libra), a tennis racket and ball, a paint pallet and brush, a sun, the "female" symbol, and a hand doing the peace sign. My quotes are "Laugh Out Loud", "Girly", "Drop Beats, Not Bombs", "Crazy", "Dance!", "I drowned out all my sense with the sound of its beating, and that's what you get when you let your heart win...", "To be or not to be...", "Love", "Facebook", and "Myspace: A place for friends." To finish it, I outlined the sunglasses with aluminum foil. I really like how it turned out.
