This is the second project we did in Advanced Art this semester. Each of us chose an emotion to portray and made it into art. I chose to depict love in my project. The twist on this project was that it needed to be a mixed media piece, meaning we needed to use more than one type of medium to create it. I chose to use cardboard as my pallet, and used drawing paper, construction paper, water colors, acrylic paint, and oil pastels to make the picture. I first drew the hands on drawing paper and colored them with oil pastels. I cut them out and layered them on top of pink and gray paper. I also cut out pieces of sheet music and painted over them with pink water color. I chose to incorporate music in this project because I feel like music is used as a strong conveyor of love. The lyrics are from Sara Bareilles' song "Bottle It Up" and they work well for this piece. The chorus itself is "Love, love, love, love, I do it for love" and the verses I used have the words "I don't claim to know much except soon as you start to make room for the parts that aren't you, it gets harder to bloom in a garden of love" and "But sensible sells, so could you kindly shut up and get started at keeping your part of the bargain, aw please little darlin' you're killing me sweetly with love." I liked these words because love is hard and it takes teamwork to make it work. The whole project is sort of messy because love can be messy. I don't think it's ever perfect, so that's how I depicted it.
